Service

As Confucius said in the Lunyu (论语), “有朋自远方来,不亦乐乎” (Isn’t it a pleasure to have friends come from afar?), and “学而时习之,不亦说乎” (Isn’t it a joy to learn and practice what you’ve learned?), reflecting my belief in the joy of sharing knowledge and learning together.
Service to both my immediate and broader communities is a priority for me. I am deeply committed to academic service, including reviewing articles, participating in committees focused on meaningful cultural change, and engaging with professional academic organizations. Additionally, I am passionate about mentoring and supporting students, particularly in helping them discover and pursue their academic interests with purpose and enthusiasm.

I have served as a reviewer for:
• Journal of Social Studies Research
• Journal of Education and Learning (EduLearn)
I am an active member of the following organizations:
• American Educational Research Association (AERA)
• American Psychological Association (APA)
• American Political Science Association (APSA)
• National Council for the Social Studies
• Indiana Council for the Social Studies
• International Social Studies Scholar Network

As a cross-cultural educator, I engage with both my immediate and broader communities to enhance learning and foster growth. I serve as a Language Volunteer at the Asian American and Asian Resource and Cultural Center (Fall 2024), helping students explore Chinese language and culture. I also contribute to academic development by judging research presentations at Purdue’s Spring Undergraduate Research Conference (Apr 2024) and sharing cultural insights as a guest speaker on The Purdue English Big Read Podcast (Nov 2023). Additionally, I support civic education by judging the We The People Competition (State Finals, Dec 2024) and the High School Mock Trial (State Competition, Mar 2024), helping students develop critical skills in public speaking and legal reasoning.

I have also mentored junior graduate students at Purdue University, offering guidance on quantitative data analysis, manuscript preparation, and navigating their first years of doctoral studies. I am particularly dedicated to supporting students from historically excluded groups and encourage them to reach out with any questions about social studies, research, academia, or life.
